BREAKING NEWS...

A sweet little cat lost her Life Long Friend when an older gentleman died this month. She is sad, lonesome and alone. No one visits except the person who comes twice a week to refill her bowls and take care of the litter box. The family of the man has no interest in taking her home. The concern is that she has no one to be with her during this sad time, and that she has no home offered to her.

She is 14 years old and in good health. One of the young men in the family did offer to cover the cost of an exam if anyone was interested in giving her a home. She cannot go to a shelter at this time in her life. She will be a loving friend to someone that wishes to assist her and offer her a home.

Please contact us at the store if you are interested!

Caring About The Strays, (C.A.T.S.) Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing for the well-being of our community’s homeless animals and placing them in loving permanent homes. We believe that all life is sacred and that adoption is a lifetime commitment.

The importance of spay/neuter for all companion animals, and TNR (Trap-Neuter- Return) for feral cats is essential to reduce overpopulation. In 2004, 49,975* cats and dogs were euthanized at New Jersey animal shelters alone. This statistic does not include all of the animals that were not impounded and were left to fend for themselves.

Failure to regard companion animals as family members often leads to their abandonment. This is a heartbreaking experience for them and a betrayal of the highest kind. Although different in species, we all share a range of emotions such as love, trust, joy, sorrow, fear, and pain.

Our Dream Can Come True With Your Help!

For those who are unaware of the hardship and senseless suffering of homeless animals or think that this problem doesn't exist, pass by any dumpster at a food source, or look into any sewer on the coldest night of the year and most likely the eyes of a previously owned pet will be staring back at you.

If the infrastructure of a compassionate community consists of senior housing to care for the elderly, and day care centers to care for its young, we believe that these communities can also humanely care for its companion animals. Our goal is to offer all of these animals a place to go where they will be loved and cared for. Our cageless, no-kill adoption center will house these rescued cats that have been medically treated. While awaiting their permanent homes, they will live and be loved in a “home-like” environment in comfortable rooms with windows and the companionship of other cats. Our foster program will care for dogs in a similar manner. Financial support will come from monetary donations and special fund raising events, in addition to a resale shop on the ground floor of the facility.

The love and companionship these animals give cannot be measured. Educating communities, especially children, about animals and responsible pet guardianship is so very important because it creates understanding, empathy, and compassion. In the words of Gandhi, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

C.A.T.S. Leads The Way!

This is a community effort where everyone benefits. With your help, and through education, we can erase the needless suffering of our companion animals. This is a tragic cycle that has continued for years. We want to put an end to their abandonment; for ultimately their future may be death by predators, starvation, or the elements. When relinquished to shelters, millions of healthy companion animals are euthanized every year. We look forward to the near future when all animals are treated with respect, and a loving home for every cat and dog is a reality. With your help we can raise the bar — change the world — one community at a time.

Please come shop with us! We carry wonderful, high quality items such as antiques, furniture, clothing, jewelry, collectibles, housewares, gift items, and much more, all donated by caring people throughout the region.

Do you have anything that you would like to donate? We accept donations during normal store hours, and all donations are tax deductible. If we must refuse some items that are brought to us that are unsuitable for resale we ask for your patience and understanding. Our shop is small and we cannot afford a dumpster for items that are broken, etc. Thank you!
